Imagine...

a world without books, music, film, design, philosophy, and abstract thinking that has birthed industry, invention, and technology…then imagine a world without a record of our history from the cave man to the modern world; thanks to the gifted artist, the storyteller, and the writer, history has been preserved. Someone wrote the song we share with a lover, the lullaby we sing to our babies, and the symphony that helps us make sense of our own place in this muddled world. Imagine a world without music. Or that film that changed our thinking. Or school books that educated us. Imagine a world without architecture and design, clothing and fashion. Someone designed our houses, the clothes on our backs, the plates we eat from. If not for the pioneers in photography, we would have no record of our kids or our marriages or our childhoods; if not for painters, generations before the photographic age would have had no record of their time on this earth, either. The inspired creative path, in all reality, is not only practical but vital.

Imagine a world without creators—individuals who believe that the very act of creating is a knee-jerk necessity not only for them, but for the world, even if it’s just a trifling corner of it. Support the arts—take notice of something beautiful or truthful or evocative today; give thanks to those who continue to heed the calling so the rest of us can benefit. Let’s not settle for mindlessness and junk-food culture. Let’s keep the flame alive.
